Job description:
Provide library reference service to faculty, staff, students, and other library patrons in person and by phone, chat and email. Serve as one of the primary instructional librarians, creating instructional tools and teaching classroom or individual sessions, and share in administering the University’s Information Literacy Program. Participate in collection development and liaison activities.
General Responsibilities:
- As the primary Reference Librarian, provide a full range of professional reference services to the University community, offering assistance and instruction in the use of online research databases, the online library catalog, and various print and electronic reference resource materials.
- Play a major role in administering the University’s Information Literacy program, including planning; creating LibGuides, tutorials, and lesson plans; providing library instruction; participating in information literacy assessment; and coordinating with other librarians and faculty.
- Compile, analyze and present reference statistics.
- Learn and implement new software or other technologies as they relate to reference and instruction.
- Participate in tasks to support Access Services as needed, including circulation, reserves, shelving, and student worker supervision.
- Participate in library liaison and collection development activities. Collaborate with faculty on selection of print and electronic resources and subscriptions, and management of existing collection.
- Participate with library management in evaluating print and electronic subscriptions; recommend possible new subscriptions and/or replacements.
- Keep current with library trends by attending conferences, webinars, and peer meetings.
- Serve on the library’s Marketing and Outreach committee, planning and implementing promotions of library services and resources as well as library programs and events. Assist in maintaining and updating the library website and social media.
- Provide reference service at the branch Educational Resource Center as needed.
- Varied scheduling may apply to this position, including some evenings or weekend coverage if needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: MLS degree. MLS degree candidate (near completion) may be considered if applicant has sufficient relevant experience. Experience working in a library, academic library experience preferred. Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Experience conducting reference interviews and searching research databases. Library instruction experience. Proficiency in technical troubleshooting in a library setting.
Preferred: Collection development experience, web editing skills, experience with LibGuides. Experience providing library instruction that aligns with the ACRL Information Literacy Framework for Higher Education.
