Systems Librarian, Innovative Interfaces, Syracuse, NY
Posted October 14, 2016
Innovative Interfaces is a library software company that provides Integrated Library System and Digital Asset Management solutions to public, academic, and special libraries around the globe. There is an opening for a Systems Librarian in the Syracuse, NY office working with the Encore, WebPAC, and Vital products. These products are Discovery, OPAC and Digital Asset Management System applications. While it is great if you have some unix experience, do not let the ‘Systems’ part of the title deter you, we train staff fully on all technical skills they will need!
A Note from Samantha Cunning (Manager of Encore/WebPAC and Vital support at III): Working for an ILS is like no other library job out there. Unlike working at a public or academic library you are getting up close and personal with the inner workings of a library system. As a Systems Librarian you will learn all about how an application works, what it can do, how to configure various options, and how to troubleshoot problems. As a librarian in a physical library you may use an application daily but will usually have little say or understanding of the options that are made available to you and other staff.
This position is best for the analytically minded folks who love a good logic puzzle, like to tinker with things and learn details, and for those who enjoy working in a support role to assist other librarians around the world with their daily ILS questions and problems. ILS Support is not ‘call center’ support, you are a MLS holding librarian with deep understanding of a product(s) and its application in the library world and provide unique answers to problems whil leveraging your training and experience with libraries.
