Volunteer Library Management Advisor, El Rosario, Honduras
Posted October 11, 2016
Americans Caring Teaching Sharing (ACTS-Honduras), a New England organization that for thirty years has done community development work in rural Honduras. ACTS has helped the village of El Rosario, in the Department of Yoro, to establish a small library, the Doctor Dean Biblioteca, that serves El Rosario as a lending library, and sends books to schools in thirteen neighboring villages in this remote, mountainous region. The library is managed by a villager, and would benefit from professional advice in management and operation.
Volunteers must be fluent in Spanish and have some relevant experience. The next visit to El Rosario from Vermont is planned for 12/10 – 12/17, but volunteers for visits to be scheduled next year are also welcome. Travel and living costs for the week’s visit likely total about $1200. ACTS-Honduras volunteers have often found support from local faith groups, service clubs and other civic organizations; crowd-funding is a possibility.
