Position: Communication Librarian
Instructor or Assistant Professor
Nine-month/Tenure track
Beginning August 2017
Description: Millersville University seeks a collaborative, creative, and excellent communicator to join our team as the Communication Librarian starting August 2017. This nine-month, tenure-track faculty position (instructor/assistant professor rank, depending on qualifications) will provide leadership in communicating library initiatives, resources, and services with a focus on collaborating with faculty to increase student engagement with the library. S/he will participate in research assistance, information literacy instruction, and serve as the subject librarian for the Communication & Theatre Department, along with other assigned academic departments.
Required: Proof of MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution by date of appointment. Master’s plus at least 10 additional credits at the graduate level required for consideration for appointment at the Assistant rank. Demonstrated experience in outreach, marketing, communication, or a related field. Exceptional communication skills and experience establishing positive and productive collaborations. Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Clear understanding of and commitment to library public services. Evidence of: professional initiative and flexibility; commitment to student learning commensurate with the university’s strong instructional mission; leadership experience on collaborative, collegial, and project-oriented teams. Experience: designing and maintaining web-based resources; with and enthusiasm for teaching, either in a library or other setting. Demonstrated commitment to equity and diversity. For tenure, must demonstrate significant progress toward a second graduate degree within five years (enrollment in second master’s program required; doctoral program preferred) Successful interview, teaching demonstration and 3 successful background checks: Act 34 (Criminal Record Check); Act 114 (FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting); and Act 151 (Child Abuse History Clearance).
Preferred: Second advanced degree. Experience in providing reference service/research assistance via multiple formats. Evidence of aptitude in creative design, including instructional design, web design, or graphic design. Professional experience in an academic library. Demonstrated experience developing and using surveys, focus groups, or other assessment instruments. Experience with distance learning programs.
