Innovation Lab Assistant, Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester, NH

Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) Shapiro Library seeks a service and technology-oriented Innovation Lab Assistant. The Innovation Lab and Makerspace supports all SNHU students, faculty, and staff in exploring new technologies, learning new skills, and developing innovation through the use of the equipment, software, and tools available in the space.

This 10 month, 30 hours per week, University Staff position reports to the Emerging Technology & Systems Librarian. Library school students who are focusing on technology are encouraged to apply.

Essential duties and responsibilites of this position include the following:

  • Assist student/faculty use, ensure safety, and ensure compliance with the rules and policies of the space
  • Provide one-on-one and group instruction on the use of the space and equipment
  • Complete requests for 3D printing, poster printing, and other projects
  • Maintain equipment and space
  • Collaborate with library faculty and student workers to develop documentation, videos or other support materials

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field
  • Demonstrated ability providing one-on-one or small group instruction
  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, Raspberry Pi or Arduino, digitization or 3D scanning, digital design software, or related DIY/Makerspace technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience working in a Makerspace or lab environment
  • Experience working with students in an academic environment.
  • Experience with graphic design or video editing
  • Familiarity with copyright and patent law, shop and laboratory safety practices

Work Hours: 30 hours per week. Afternoon and evening hours are required.
