Circulation Supervisor, NHTI, Concord, NH

General Summary:   To perform professional duties assisting the Head of User Services in developing and implementing policies and overseeing services of the Circulation Department. This position reports to the Head of User Services in the Library at NHTI – Concord’s Community College.

$15.76 – $18.26 Per Hour
M-F (25 hours/week)

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Responsible for overseeing daily functions in the Library Circulation Department;
  • Provides direct supervision over subordinates in the Library Circulation Department;
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, implements and oversees, policies of the Circulation Department of the NHTI Library in conjunction with the Head of User Services and Library Director;
  • Provides formal or informal training on a regular basis to Library Circulation staff;
  • Trains and supervises work study students and evaluates their work;
  • Gathers statistical data and prepares comprehensive reports for use by the Library Director;
  • Uses a computer for various functions including circulation, mail, information retrieval, record keeping, database management, etc.;
  • Assists patrons and answers basic library questions while referring complex inquires to appropriate library staff;
  • Provides patrons with in depth one-on-one instruction in the use of computer applications including – but not limited to – Microsoft Office, Blackboard, e-mail, and library management software.
  • Assists in overseeing the selection and installation of art exhibits and related functions;
  • Participates in staff meetings/planning;
  • Light housekeeping cleaning of furniture and equipment;
  • Opens and/or closes the Library, enabling all machines, lights, etc.;
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations including, but not limited to, health and safety policies, State of New Hampshire Sexual Harassment Policy and all civil rights laws;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate’s degree from a recognized college or technical institute with 16 credits in library science, business management or computer science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience:  Two years of experience in library support services. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: None required.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Some knowledge of library techniques, systems and procedures. Some knowledge of sources of reference and bibliographical material. Ability to use and explain the library facilities, including catalogs and other reference aids. Ability to deal effectively with volunteers and non-professional staff in instructing them in the use of the library. Ability to present ideas effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons and personnel of the College. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities.
