Library Fellow, Deerfield Academy, Deerfield, MA

Reporting to the Library Director, the Library Fellow is a paid 9-month, 22.5 hour/week position that works from about August 29, 2016 through June 2, 2017 when school is in session. The position works Sundays 2:00pm-9:40pm and two other days Monday-Thurs. 2:00pm-9:40pm.

Responsibilities include: providing research help to the Deerfield community in person, over the phone, through email and other technology-based systems; participating in collection development including evaluating, selecting and deselecting; serve as a welcoming and professional main point of contact for Library users; contributing to a continuous process of assessment to ensure the Library’s success in advancing Deerfield’s evolving goals in light of pedagogical, information, technology, and user preference changes; participate in Dining Hall sit-down meals and other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess an MLS/MLIS degree or be nearing completion of such degree; exhibit an enthusiastic service orientation with sensitivity to the needs of users at all skill levels; interest in working with adolescents, experience in a high school is a plus; possess excellent oral and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; demonstrate flexibility to accept, manage, and incorporate change and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously and effectively; maintain a professional and tactful approach in all interactions, ensuring confidentiality and an individual’s right to privacy regarding appropriate information.
