The Metadata Associate will contribute toward the Press’s increased efforts to become a metadata-informed content publisher. Responsibilities include analyzing and fixing inconsistencies of key data points; troubleshooting data integrity; systematically updating key areas of data and distributing to external systems and vendors; helping to establish and implement best practices, quality, and governance implementation across all business units; and developing, communicating, and documenting training materials. Will also work closely with digital products colleagues in developing future data points (including chapter-level, key words, etc.) by demonstrating a thorough understanding of the data, including how it is captured and used in MITP’s internal systems; and work closely with software developers to improve the use of the metadata for both internal workflow needs, external distribution, and to enhance websites and other market-facing media.
REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years of similar experience in publishing or libraries; self-motivation; ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong analytical, organizational, writing, and communication skills; aptitude for and willingness to learn new systems and processes; ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders; experience in an information management capacity, either in a library environment or in book or journal publishing and product information management; knowledge of and exposure to information and publishing standards; informed understanding of the publishing marketplace, including retail and institutional sales; and familiarity with database systems and Microsoft Office software. Experience with markup languages a plus, as is work experience in a library or university setting. Experience with cataloging or taxonomy desired. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Job #13402-5
