Library Technical Assistant-Youth Services, Haverhill Public Library, Haverhill, MA

This 30 hour position is a key support position for the Youth Services department. You will aid in storytimes, programs, collection development, and more.

Basic Job Functions: 

Assists all patrons in the use of library equipment and materials including patron-use computers. Helps plan, publicize and implement programs for children and their caregivers. Participates in collection development, reference services, and reader’s advisory for young patrons. Assists in planning, scheduling and providing tours to local schools and other community organizations. Is responsible for the operation of the Children’s Room in the absence of the Head of Youth Services. Will be asked to fill in at other desks such as Reference and Circulation. Other duties as determined by the Head of Youth Services.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS required, MLS or ongoing coursework towards a MLS is strongly preferred
  • Public library experience, urban library experience is highly valued
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor, and genuine desire to work with children
  • Energy, enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility
  • Ability to work in a busy, diverse city environment
  • Ability to meet people easily and get along well with others
  • Ability to express oneself clearly, concisely and pleasantly in the English language both orally, in person and over the phone, and in writing
  • Ability to handle minute detail
  • Accurate typing and word processing skills; strong Microsoft Office knowledge
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly
  • Ability to handle situations with tact, courtesy, initiative, resourcefulness, good judgment and punctuality

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend and stoop; stand and walk on a frequent basis; lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; must be able to effectively communicate with the public.

This is a 30 hour per week position with full benefits. Position is open due to a retirement and can be filled after April 22nd.

Salary: $22,529.52-25,179.34, Steps on City Pay Scale
