Young Adult Librarian, Marlborough Public Library, Marlborough, MA

The Young Adult Librarian provides services to teens in grades 6 – 12; supervises one PT Teen Clerk and six Library Pages; staffs the Teen Room, and helps out at circulation and reference desks as needed; provides homework help and guides teens in the use of library resources; creates displays and conducts programs; coordinates the teen summer reading program; acts as liaison to Marlborough schools for grades 6 through 12 and city organizations that serve youth; conducts school visits; coordinates opportunities for teen involvement in the library; selects and orders young adult materials according to collection development guidelines; serves as a member of the supervisory team; performs other related library duties as required.

35 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays in rotation.

Qualifications

ALA-accredited Masters Degree in Library Science required; 1+ years current young adult experience in a public library. Candidate must enjoy working closely with teenagers and strive to provide a fun and supportive community environment to attract teens to the library. A strong customer service orientation, flexibility, and a passion for inspiring and engaging teens are also important.

The successful candidate will be creative, detail oriented with extensive knowledge of young adult literature, and able to work independently. We are looking for someone with excellent communication, technology and social media skills who enjoys working in a diverse environment, and who has demonstrated a commitment to young adult services. Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills a plus.

Salary: $44,001 – $49,495 in steps plus 2% as of 7/1/16
