Ogden Pleissner Archives Internship, Shelburne Museum, Shelburne, VT

The Shelburne Museum Archive is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual for an unpaid academic internship in the Collections Department. The intern will commit to 120-150 total hours of work onsite at the Shelburne Museum to be performed over a chosen semester or summer (depending on academic credit requirements).
Located in Vermont’s scenic Lake Champlain Valley, Shelburne Museum is one of the finest, most diverse museums of art, Americana and design. Comprised of 39 buildings on 42 acres and housing over 150,000 objects, the Museum is renowned for its Impressionist paintings, folk art, quilts and textiles, decorative arts, American paintings, and horse-drawn vehicles.
Learning Opportunities and Responsibilities:
Under guidance from the Shelburne Museum Archive & Library Manager, the Ogden Pleissner Archive Intern will learn to process a small archival collection of papers, photographs, slides, film, scrapbooks and ephemera. The intern will be trained in the proper handling and rehousing of photographic prints, slides and film for their long-term preservation. The intern will complete a standard finding aid for the collection. Depending on the interests and experience some scanning and digitization may be required.
About the Artist: Ogden Minton Pleissner (1905-1983) was best known for his sporting art and paintings of Europe during WWII, but also painted landscapes of Wyoming, Vermont, and post-war Europe. The collections department is currently completing a comprehensive inventory of the Pleissner Studio on campus, processing his archives will bring additional depth to the museum’s holdings.
Requirements:
- Enrollment in, or recent completion of, MLIS or similar degree with a concentration in archival studies from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent graduate degree in Archives
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and under supervision
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet strict deadlines

A successful background check is required, as well as a volunteer application (found on the Shelburne Museum website). The background consent form will be completed once a potential offer of a position is made.
This is a temporary unpaid volunteer position reporting to the Archives & Library Manager. Supervisor will consult with the intern’s academic advisor to approve academic credits if applicable. Intern must commit to at least 8 hours per week for the duration of the academic semester. Employee benefits are not available; housing is not provided.
