Lending Services Librarian, Walker Memorial Library, City of Westbrook, ME

The City of Westbrook is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to administer and effectively manage the daily operations of Walker Memorial Library’s Lending Services. The Lending Services Librarian is a self-starter and team player who contributes towards the fulfilment of the library’s mission by responding to the information needs of patrons, applying progressive trends in librarianship to Lending Services, and otherwise demonstrating enthusiasm for creating an exceptional customer experience. Participates in the enhancement of library services through a continual improvement process involving collaborative efforts with other staff, local libraries, and agencies.

The ideal candidate will have: Masters in Library Science degree; minimum of 3 years’ full-time library experience in a professional capacity; prior supervisory experience; experience working with integrated library systems; experience working in a variety of library service areas, including circulation, reference and cataloging. Equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Must be technologically savvy; possess well developed leadership, communication, interpersonal, collaboration, problem-solving and technology skills; and be passionate about establishing a welcoming and customer service oriented environment. Must have the ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes two evenings per week and rotating Saturdays.

This Full Time opportunity offers a competitive wage (starts at $18.92/hr DOE&Q) and a generous benefits package that includes: Health & Dental Insurance; Paid Vacation, Sick, & Holiday Time; and Retirement Benefits. This is a Teamster Local Union No 340 General Unit position.

Originally constructed in 1894, with a recently renovated addition built in 1989, Walker Memorial Library (WML) is a wonderful example of the community’s rich history and revitalization. WML houses over 50,000 volumes, boasts a sizable Reference Collection, a Local History Room, a Youth Services area, and new Makerspace area, and offers a wide variety of technologically progressive adult, children’s, and youth programming to its 3,000 registered borrowers.
