Associate Professor, Head of Special Collections & Curator of Historical Manuscripts and Archives, University of Southern Mississippi, Oxford, MS

The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position as Associate Professor, Head of Special Collections & Curator of Historical Manuscripts and Archives in the University Libraries to begin in July 2016.

Under the general supervision of the Dean of University Libraries, the incumbent has responsibility for the leadership and vision of the University Libraries Special Collections, historical manuscripts and university archives.  These responsibilities primarily include:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree(s) and special collections experience.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience for at least five years over full time and other staff in a special collections operation or department.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special collections management, archival methodology, preservation techniques, and special collections reference service.
  • Knowledge of records management.
  • Proficiencies in Internet use, standard software applications, relevant emerging technologies, and communication packages.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing a budget.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property issues such as copyright.
  • Minimum ten years of increasingly responsible professional experience in special collections and/or archives.
  • Earned second graduate degree in a related discipline.
