Assistant Professor of Library Media/Instruction/Early-Experience Librarian, Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah

Founded in 1897, SUU is a comprehensive, regional master degree-granting university and Utah’s designated public liberal arts and sciences university. The accredited state-supported institution of more than 8,000 students is located in Cedar City, home to the Utah Shakespeare Festival and surrounded by national parks, monuments, forests and wilderness.  SUU is 40 minutes from both snow skiing and year-round golfing, 2-1/2 hours from Las Vegas and 3-1/2 hours from Salt Lake City.

Requirements

Required Education, Training, and Skills:

Job related-

  • Working knowledge of upper-grade instructional design issues and research skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write concisely and effectively for digital media.

General-

  • MLS from ALA-accredited library school or foreign equivalent.  Evidence of potential for earning tenure. Promotion to full professor requires an awarded second master’s or doctoral degree.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks asynchronously in an academic environment.
  • Flexibility and interpersonal abilities of a nature to work successfully with a wide variety of constituencies including students, university faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Evidence of ability to work independently and collegially.
  • Organizational, written, and oral-communication skills.
  • Commitment to effective service for both internal and external clients.

Preferred Education, Training, and Skills:

Job related-

  • Experience with user-interface design/assessment.
  • Experience with graphic design and video editing software.
  • Experience with Canvas or comparable learning management system (LMS) software.

General-

  • Experience or commitment to teaching at the college level (online and/or face-to-face).
  • Experience in academic public-service librarianship.
