Tisch Library at Tufts University is looking for an established or emerging leader to guide our Research & Instruction (R&I) department. This is an opportunity to innovate and deepen library practice in a highly functional department, building on success and expanding our user-centered approach. The ground work has been done: faculty collaborations are strong and increasing in number; the library has shifted from a reference model to a research consultation model; our multi-media design studio is robust and dedicated to course-related assignments; and solid partnerships are already established with the graduate schools, research administration, center for teaching excellence, academic technology, and student services. The staff is highly productive, self-reflective, and amenable to change.
The Assistant Director, Research & Instruction will provide leadership for Tisch Library, representing the library and establishing partnerships with all Tufts’ libraries, other campus units, faculty (especially regarding learning outcomes and curricula), and consortia efforts. Reporting to the Director of Tisch Library, the Assistant Director is a member of the senior leadership of the library, setting strategic direction and aligning library initiatives with the University’s needs. This person plays a significant role in setting vision for the evolution of both services and the physical space. He or she provides coaching, mentoring, and supervision for 5 direct reports in a department of 14 staff.
Tisch Library supports Tufts’ School of Arts & Sciences and School of Engineering. R&I works with students, faculty, and staff to incorporate information resources into the curriculum; designs and delivers course-based and open workshops; provides research consultation services; and develops new services and programs to support teaching, learning, research, and scholarship at Tufts. Tisch Library is on the Medford/Somerville campus, just outside Cambridge, MA and with proximity to all that the Boston Metro area has to offer.
