Head of Special Collections Technical Services
A newly created position, the Head of Special Collections Technical Services in the John J. Burns Library will direct and manage a broad array of functions pertaining to the description and preservation of rare books and special collections. S/he will lead a team Burns Library staff who catalog, conserve, and maintain the storage of Burns Library collections, and will work closely with the Burns Library Head of Archives. S/he will also coordinate special collections cataloging projects performed by other Boston College Libraries staff and will perform additional original and complex copy cataloging of rare materials.
Head Librarian, Digital Scholarship
The Head of Digital Scholarship will lead a team and colleagues across BC to envision, plan and deliver innovative and sustainable digital research. Through exploration of new technologies, and engagement with digital scholarship and digital library practices, standards and systems, this individual will provide strong leadership, coordination, and project management for the team, as well as a technical expertise. He or she will oversee all requests for new digital scholarship initiatives; contribute creative ideas for meaningful new uses of digital content; and develop services in support of introducing digital research methods and technologies.
Digital Scholarship Librarian / Bibliographer (2 positions: Liaison to English or History)
These Digital Scholarship Librarian / Bibliographer positions advance digital scholarship by providing research services, technical support, and project management assistance for members of the BC community engaged in technology-rich scholarly projects. Both librarians maintain deep knowledge and practical expertise in an evolving interdisciplinary landscape of digital scholarship tools and methods, including but not limited to textual and spatial analysis, statistical computation, and data visualization. Each position also serves as Bibliographer / Liaison for English or History. Applicants will apply for either the English or History position.
Collection Development Librarian
The Collection Development Librarian and Social Sciences Bibliographer provides leadership and stewardship of Library collections across all subjects, with an emphasis on the social sciences. The Librarian provides research services and instruction for either the Lynch School of Education, or the Political Science Department and the interdisciplinary programs of Asian and Asian American Studies, Islamic Civilization and Societies, Jewish Studies, and International Studies. In addition to developing collections which support the research, teaching, curriculum and educational needs within the assigned subject areas, this position requires experience in developing and managing research collections at a broad level.
Reference Librarian/ Bibliographer
The Reference Librarian/ Bibliographer in the Social Sciences provides research services and instruction for either the Lynch School of Education, or the Political Science Department and the interdisciplinary programs of Asian and Asian American Studies, Islamic Civilization and Societies, Jewish Studies, and International Studies. This position develops collections which support the research, teaching, curriculum and educational needs within the assigned subject areas.
Discovery Services Librarian
The Discovery Services Librarian provides access to scholarly resources and services by managing, developing, and supporting public-facing discovery and access applications. With the goal of providing all users with seamless, integrated, and consistent access to resources, the Discovery Services Librarian works closely with Library staff to continually evaluate and enhance Library discovery and access services (e.g. Primo, ILLiad, Rapid, NRE, OJS, Islandora).
