Middle School Librarian, Milton Academy, Milton, MA

Milton Academy, established in 1798, is an independent coeducational national boarding and day school, serving 1,000 students in grades K-12 on a 125 acre campus eight miles south of Boston.

The Cox Library seeks a Middle School Librarian who will become part of the Library Department Team. This position will report to the Director of the Cox Library and assist the other librarians in their work.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Act as the point person for Middle School research classes, coordinating instruction and library usage with teachers and updating the library research calendar.
  • Create and update resource guides to assist students with finding materials in the print and digital collection; use Screencastify, Cattura or other tools to create tutorials and flipped library instruction.
  • Maintain the Middle School fiction and non-fiction collection by weeding older resources and recommending new resources that support and enhance student and faculty interests and learning.
  • Work with the Library Assistant on displays and contests to engage Middle School students; update the Middle School website page; help maintain the library’s social media presence.
  • Provide reference assistance and Reader’s Advisory for all Cox Library users.
  • Coordinate with the Lower School and Upper School librarians to ensure a continuation of skills K-12.

Candidates for this position should hold a Master’s of Library Science degree from an ALA or NCATE accredited institution. Preferred candidate will already have Middle School library experience, ideally in an independent school, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty.
