Summer Internship, Association of American Medical Colleges, Washington, DC

The AAMC Reference Center and Mary H. Littlemeyer Archives is a service to AAMC staff and members of the public. Reference Center staff provide reference, research, and access to current and historical collections in order to assist in leading the academic medicine community to improve the health of all. Our Archives collection ensures documentation of the Association: its origin, development, policies, and activities.

This summer, the Reference Center is seeking an archival intern. Work duties include acquiring recent organizational records, processing and integrating the backlog and writing the finding aids for up to two archival collections, as well as processing the backlog of communications photos.

Responsibilities:

The intern will work to acquire, integrate and process papers related to the Center for Workforce Studies and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), leading to the creation and posting of two finding aids.  If time allows, they will also process the backlog of communications photos.

Development Opportunities:

The intern will learn/use basic archival skills to acquire, appraise, arrange and describe records.  They will also need to do some historical research to write the historical note.  These basic skills are critical to any future archival job.  They will also learn how a small special library and archives works.  They will be supervised by a certified archivist.

Qualifications:

Attention to detail and good verbal and written skills are required.  We are seeking a student enrolled in a library science/archives or history graduate program. Some archival coursework or experience is preferred.
