Reference / Instruction Librarian, The American University in Cairo, Egypt

The American University in Cairo is searching for a new Reference / Instruction Librarian. The successful candidate would join the Research and Information Services Department. Major job duties include collaborating with fellow RIS librarians in the development and delivery of an undergraduate course in information literacy, an essential part of AUC’s Core Curriculum; teaching “one-shot” library instruction sessions for undergraduate and graduate courses; providing research services to students and faculty, and offering liaison and collection development services to targeted academic departments.
The successful candidate must have: an ALA-accredited MLS degree (or equivalent); excellent written and oral English (native proficiency), and must be skilled in current information retrieval technologies. He / she will have demonstrated skills and experience in delivering top-notch research services, as well as subject expertise appropriate to a liberal arts institution of higher learning. Experience in instruction (one-on-one and classroom) in an academic library environment is essential, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a tight-knit team. AUC Library’s Learning Commons is a fast-paced environment, so we desire someone who is able to sustain a strong service-oriented attitude when working with library users. HIGHLY DESIRABLE: a second Master’ s degree; library subject area experience or academic background; proficiency in a second language and experience in a multicultural environment are desirable but not mandatory.
