Graduate Librarian, Stratford University, Falls Church, VA

The Graduate Librarian provides support for the Learning Resource Center, ensuring that it is an extension of the classroom by helping students, staff and faculty develop the information literacy skills needed for academic and professional success. The Graduate Librarian works independently and with other Librarians to provide reference and information literacy services, maintain library functions, and complete projects as needed. The Graduate Librarian also provides front-line support for Stratford’s e-textbook program, as well as on-call support for proctoring in the Student Success Center.

Functions:

  • 40%: Library-related tasks
    • The Graduate Librarian will be expected to develop and follow through with a variety of independent and collaborative tasks that include, but are not limited to, instructional design, reference service, outreach, and marketing
    • Serves as embedded librarian for both doctoral- and master’s-level students
  • 30%: Library Instruction
    • Assist students and faculty in the use of the library collection, research materials, technology, and area resources
    • Identify and provide access to the resources needed to support Stratford’s academic programs
    • Instruct students on a formal and informal basis in skills related to identifying and interpreting research information and communicating the content of research material in written and visual presentations
  • 10%: Collection Development:
    • Assist the Librarian in continually developing, evaluating, and maintaining the library collection to meet the needs of the students and faculty
  • 10%: Maintenance and Administrative Tasks
    • Perform library maintenance and administrative tasks such as copy and original cataloging, placing work orders for library technology, and serving as as liaison between academic departments and the library
  • 5%: Textbooks
    • Act as a liaison between the campus community and textbook coordinator and support students and faculty in troubleshooting issues
  • 5%: Other duties as assigned
    • Recommend changes and improvements in processes

Qualifications:

A desired candidate will have:

  • Able to complete tasks independently at a very high level of performance
  • Patience and ability to interact with students from diverse backgrounds

Required Qualifications:

  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited university
  • Customer service experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technology skills
  • Teaching/tutoring/reference experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Subject master’s in business or information technology (or related field)
  • Familiarity with Open Educational Resources such as Google Scholar a plus
  • Experience with citation management (Zotero/RefWorks/Mendeley) also a huge plus
  • Experience working with business/IT professionals
  • Experience providing research support to graduate programs
