Temporary Library Assistants, UMass Boston, Boston, MA

Temporary library assistants are needed to work from early March through late April to assistant with a validation study for the Boston Library Consortium (BLC) Eastern Academic Scholars’ Trust (EAST) project at the University of Massachusetts Boston. EAST is a newly formed shared print retention partnership of college and university libraries across the Northeast.
Assistants are needed to identify if a book is available on the shelf and assess the condition of the book in a timely manner.
Requirements include:
- Ability to locate and determine quickly if items are on the shelf
- Familiarity with Library of Congress Classification
- Ability to assess the condition of a book quickly
- Comfortable using barcode readers and computers
- Ability to carry a barcode reader and laptop/tablet throughout the stacks
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks productively
- Attentiveness to detail and quality
- Ability to learn new tasks quickly and accurately
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to repeatedly bend and stretch to reach books
- Experience working in a library environment
- Ability to work independently
Pay: 11.75 per hour, minimum 15 hours per week during normal business hours
