Bookseller, Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, Amherst, MA

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst seeks an energetic picture book enthusiast to share their love of books. This part-time position will support the Museum’s mission of inspiring a love of art and reading through picture books by connecting patrons young and old with books, art supplies and toys from our world renowned curated collection. The ideal candidate will be committed to engaging with patrons and providing outstanding customer service which includes sharing their knowledge of picture books, responding to patron concerns and questions, and efficient, accurate cashiering. Booksellers also receive and restock inventory and support our e-commerce sales through order fulfillment (packing and shipping). The current position is approximately 15 hours a week; one weekend day is required with very occasional evening shifts to support special events. Candidates must enjoy working with the public, have some retail experience, be very comfortable with technology, multitasking, and with learning new systems and processes. Booksellers spend the majority of their time on the selling floor, which requires physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, and lifting. As part of The Carle team, the Bookseller should have the ability to maintain productive relationships with colleagues throughout the Museum and will enjoy a significant discount on merchandise and Museum programs with opportunity for in-house professional development.
