Young Adult Librarian, Hopkinton Public Library, Hopkinton, MA

Town of Hopkinton seeks PT (19 hrs/wk) Young Adult Librarian for its Public Library –

This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic self-starter to join our growing (currently being renovated and expanded) library! The Young Adult Librarian will provide a wide variety of programs and library services for the teens of Hopkinton and will be responsible for “starting up” our Young Adult department, which has previously been overseen by our children’s librarian. Major responsibilities include developing a collection and resources geared for teens, planning and execution of programs and activities meeting the needs and interests of teens; and maintaining a teen webpage and social media presence. This is a part-time position reporting to the Library Director with hours compatible with student hours, including late afternoons, two evenings per week and some Saturdays as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree required; Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program is preferred.
  • Students in the last year of their MLS degree will also be given preference.
  • One or more years of professional experience in a public library or in internship positions.
  • Experienced in working with young adults (ages 12 – 18) in a school or public library.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with teens as well other age groups.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to build relationships with schools and community organizations. Able to take initiative, multitask and set priorities.
