Rye Country Day School is seeking a dynamic Lower School (PK-4) librarian passionate about teaching and eager to collaborate with the entire lower school faculty. The ideal candidate will take a leadership role in creating learning activities that develop a love of reading and promoting existing and emerging technologies that support teaching and learning. The candidate should be well-versed in children’s literature, research skills, and PK-4 curricula. Collection management skills should reveal a commitment to diversity. Candidates should have a MSLIS or MLS degree from an accredited library program and at least 3 years experience as a lower school librarian. An excellent work ethic, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and a sense of humor are expected.
Goals:
- To create and maintain a library space that is inviting, safe, flexible and conducive to student learning
- To develop and maintain a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the teaching styles of our school community
- To encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and improve learning
- To collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness
- To empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
- To work collaboratively with other Librarians in the Middle and Upper School
The Lower School Librarian is a faculty member who values the mission of the school and is committed to teaching within a student-centered learning environment. The librarian is a lifelong learner and a visionary educator who values the intersection between storytelling, exploration and access to information. In collaboration with classroom teachers, the librarian designs and implements a program that supports the various grade level curricula while instilling a love of learning, fostering multiple literacies, ensuring equitable access to information and empowering students to be enthusiastic readers and creative and critical thinkers.
