Availability: One year long position, open immediately.
Hours: 15 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours required.
Salary: $15/hour.
Overview:
The Education Commons is located in Weiss Pavilion, in the north side of Franklin Field. The Commons provide locations for Penn community members to meet and work together in a comfortable space with integrated technology. This internship focuses on the upkeep, use, and support of the 3D Printers in the EC, as well as programming to support 3D modeling and use of the 3D printers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for the maintenance of the three Makerbot 3D printers in the Education Commons, including troubleshooting of problems and reporting of major technical issues. The intern will also be responsible for receiving 3D printing requests and preparing them for printing. The intern will be responsible for generating reports on the use of the printers, and streamlining the submission and preparation process.
The intern will also be responsible for creating programming supporting the use of 3D printers. This programming includes workshops to introduce new users to the technology, classroom visits to work with associated faculty, and office hours to assist patrons with generating print files.
Qualifications:
Enrollment in a graduate degree program is expected. Applicants should have strong familiarity with a variety of 3D modeling software such as SketchUp, Blender, SolidWorks, Maya, Rhino, etc. Applicants should also be experienced in working with MakerBot’s proprietary MakerWare software. Successful applicants will have demonstrated ability to work independently, as this position requires flexible hours and self-scheduling. This position requires a 15 hour/week commitment, including weekday and weekend hours, both at the Education Commons as well as independent work.
