Freelance Research Assistant, Project-Basis, Boston, MA

Seeking a detail-oriented person to help conduct research for the writing of a memoir / family history exploring mental illness in families. You’ll be working with the project writer, who works for the subject/ author, a psychologist and gender scholar. Students in Library Science, or those who otherwise have extensive experience in performing in-depth on- and offline research including regional news stories from before the 1950s, birth/ death/ marriage records, hard to find people both living and dead, etc., preferred. Proficiency in and access to Lexis/ Nexis and other research tools also preferred. Creative thinking a plus — some details or people you’ll be asked to research may begin with scant information. Otherwise the job is very flexible and hopefully fun and interesting. Expecting a few hours of work a week, none of it extremely time-sensitive (so if there are weeks you can do less, that is fine) but I would ask that you be able to commit to the entire duration of the project, which will extend until November 2016.

Compensation on an hourly basis at first, with potential to move to a project fee once we both know the scope of work. You will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement. Please email [email protected] with questions or to apply.
