Under general supervision, ensures that students and teachers are effective and efficient users and producers of information. Provides students and teachers with intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats. Provides instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas. Collaborates with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual learners. Manages and supervises the operation of the library media center.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops a positive climate that encourages students and teachers to make optimum use of the resources in the library media center
2. Provides leadership in the instructional program
3. Selects materials based on the curriculum, teaching strategies, learning activities, test results, and student interests
4. Manages the acquisition, processing, organization, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources
5. Administers budget allocations and maintains financial records
6. Promotes school wide utilization of library media facilities, resources, and services
7. Informs users of library media center materials
8. Works cooperatively with classroom teachers to help students develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of materials in relation to planned assignments
9. Supervising and working with Library Aide
10. Coordinates the development and maintenance of the community resources file
11. Involves staff, administration, and students in the evaluation of the media program
12. Complies with any reasonable oral or written directive of the Principal or other appropriate administrator
13. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Principal and/or Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification as School Library Media Specialist
- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
- Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
