Interim Library Director will lead the library while the search committee interviews for and recommends for hire a full-time permanent Library Director. The Interim Director is encouraged to apply for the full-time permanent Library Director position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the management and operation of all phases of the library (including maintaining the budget and supervision of staff) and its program in accordance with policies established by the Dedham Library Board of Trustees
Dedham Public Library serves the community with a main library and a branch. The Director works in close cooperation with and is directly accountable to a five-member library board of trustees.
Dedham is a thriving, suburban town supported by actively engaged, civic-minded residents. Established in 1636, Dedham is situated ten miles south of Boston proper and has just under 25,000 citizens. It is easily accessible from Route 95, Route 128, and Route 1, as well as the MBTA. In addition, Dedham is a town rich in history. The origin of libraries dates back to 1794, with the first publicly funded library opening in 1872. Currently, the Dedham Public Library serves the community with its Main Library in Dedham Square and its Endicott Branch Library on the grounds of the Endicott Estate in the Oakdale area of the town. The Dedham Public Library is a vibrant part of the community evidenced by its unique position of having two booster groups, which provide support for the library’s needs.
Time frame: minimum of 3 months
Hours: 37.5 hrs/wk
Salary commensurate with experience
Requirements: MLS from an ALA accredited program; four years professional experience in public library including at least two years in a supervisory position. Prior Library Director experience preferred.
