Adult Services/Reference Librarian, Derry Public Library, Derry, NH

Adult Services/Reference Librarian: Permanent Full-time (37.5 hours/wk)

Derry Public Library seeks an energetic, outgoing new member for the Reference team.  We are looking for someone who wants to help people find answers to life’s burning questions and who believes the public library should be a hub of the community.  Successful candidates will have a positive attitude, lots of initiative, and enthusiasm to work collaboratively.  Derry Public Library has a culture of supporting hard work, professional development and intellectual inquiry.

Duties:  Knowledgeable, friendly customer service is the primary responsibility.  This position entails assisting patrons with information retrieval, location of materials in multiple formats, and use of computers, including tech support and trouble-shooting equipment.  

Managing all facets of adult programming is another essential responsibility, unique to this position.  Previous experience is preferred in selection and development of adult programs including planning, scheduling, publicizing, supervising, and evaluation.  General promotion of the library through relationship-building and coordinating with other Town departments and agencies, initiating outreach activities, and participating in committee work is expected.

In addition, this position includes involvement with collection development, evaluation of library services, reader’s advisory, and the care and management of the Library’s New Hampshire Room, our local history collection. Special activities include coordinating with the Town of Derry for the 2019 300th Nutfield Anniversary celebration and the continued development of obituary and cemetery interment databases.

Qualifications:  Successful candidate must be willing to work with people of all ages and levels of knowledge, and have facility with PCs, wireless devices, the internet, databases and library catalogs.  MLIS or MLIS candidate from an ALA accredited program, with relevant work experience, is preferred; candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.  Job includes two regular evenings and alternating Saturday hours.  Salary commensurate with experience ($17.50-$20.60/hour).  Benefits include comprehensive health and dental insurance, as well as paid sick, vacation, and personal time off.
