Head of Reference & Information Services, Peabody Institute Library, Danvers, MA

The Peabody Institute Library of Danvers, MA, is looking for a new Head of Reference & Information Services.  The Library, which serves an active and engaged community, requires a dynamic forward-thinking individual who is comfortable as a team player and is ready to provide enthusiastic, direct service to patrons. The successful candidate will possess good administrative abilities and be an effective supervisor.  

 The new Head of Reference & Information Services will demonstrate a capacity to respond to the information needs of a wide range of library users who vary from more traditional patrons to the electronically fluent.  We are seeking a professional who is very comfortable with computer technology and who can oversee training staff and patrons in using Library computer resources. This position is an exciting opportunity to help shape the direction of the Library as it embraces the twenty-first century.

Included in the specific duties of this position are:

– Supervision of at least two professionals plus several paralibrarians.

– Management of out-of-network interlibrary loan.

– Participation in nonfiction collection management including development and weeding.

– Management of reference-related electronic resources.

– Management of the Library’s Website and social media presence.

– Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

 The position requires one evening per week and some weekend shifts.

 This position is subject to a 90-day probationary period.
