Youth Services Librarian, Kingston Free Library, Kingstown, RI

The South Kingstown (RI) Public Library has an opportunity for a full-time Children’s/Young Adult Librarian at the Kingston Free Library. 

This position is responsible for providing direct service to children, young adults, adults and parents by providing information and recommending and locating materials; provides reference assistance with school assignments; coordinates weekly story times and a variety of other programs for children and young adults; responsible for children’s and young adults collection development; visiting local schools and meeting with community groups to promote use of the library; and working with teachers and daycare providers to develop and provide services to the children under their care.

This 35 hour/week, non union position works Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am-5pm and Thursdays 12pm-8pm as well as one or two Saturdays per month from 9am-5 pm. When working a Saturday you will have another day off during the week.

To qualify you must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program and two years of public library experience. Previous work with children and young adults is preferred. The starting salary is $42,800 and includes a full range of fringe benefits.
