Maker Space Coordinator, Richland Library, Columbia, SC

$1,552.50 biweekly salary, plus benefits
Richland Library seeks an individual who is creative and excited about the prospect of being part of a visionary model for our Library working as a Maker Space Coordinator at Richland Library Main. The ideal candidate has general knowledge or ability to learn modern library organization, procedures, policy, aims and services to help activate and program the Main Library’s maker space.

This position reports to the Studio Services Librarian.

Here are some of things you would be doing if hired for this position: 

  • Answering directional and informational questions about the Library, including its services, materials, programs, and initiatives.
  • Assisting library customers in using the Library’s maker resources and equipment, for example: 3D printers, vinyl cutters, Arduino, as well as low-tech tools.
  • Staffing public service points on the Second Level.
  • Planning and conducting maker programming.
  • Maintaining liaison activities with local makers and maker organizations.
  • Keeping informed of trends and issues in the maker community.
  • Assisting in overall planning for maker services.
  • Participating as a team member on projects within the Studio Services Department.
  • Developing and participating in special projects.
  • Assisting in promoting maker resources and services in branch libraries or community locations.
  • Serving as a maker resource for staff system-wide.
  • Performing other associated duties.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; preference given for a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or another relevant area of study. Transcript must be presented upon hire.
  • Specialized knowledge or skills developed through work experience related to public libraries and/or the maker movement. Without a Master’s degree, at least two years of relevant work experience must be documented.
  • South Carolina driver’s license with safe driving record may be required.
  • Ability to perform job functions
