Business and Job Center Librarian, Richland Library, Columbia, SC

Richland Library seeks a library professional who is energetic, outgoing, and possesses a positive attitude to help others pursue their career goals, and make resources available to achieve those goals at the Business and Job Center at Main. This person is a good communicator and has excellent technology skills. 

Here are some of the things you would be doing if hired for this position: 

  • Answering reference questions for customers in the library as well as remotely, utilizing print and online resources in the Business and Job Center, and in all related departments.
  • Providing assistance for customers’ career and workforce skills development via the Library’s Business and Job Center and other library resources. 
  • Assisting customers at the Information Desk and other public service areas as needed, communicating and interpreting general library policies and procedures; assisting customers in locating and using materials and in use of a variety of library equipment.
  • Assisting with training of professional and non-professional staff.
  • Providing readers advisory services and bibliographic instruction.
  • Assisting other related departments managers in planning for and operation of the departments.
  • Compiling subject listings and usage guidelines for print and non-print sources.
  • Conducting interlibrary loan activities.
  • Assisting with planning, developing materials for, and conducting computer, library research, and job skills classes; as well as providing cover letter and resume creation and critiquing. 
  • Serving on departmental and library-wide committees; representing the library at community group meetings.
  • Assisting with the organization and maintenance of department collections, files and databases.
  • Conducting tours of the departments and the Business and Job Center.
  • Planning, developing, and conducting programs and presentations.
  • Keeping informed of professional developments; attending professional meetings and training.
  • Serving as night or weekend supervisor of the department as needed.
  • Being responsible for contributing content to the Library’s website.
  • Assisting with the management of the Research collection; indexing local and regional magazines and newspapers.
