Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:          

  • Assist library patrons in locating information and materials.
  • Teach patrons how to use library resources, including electronic reference tools, the online catalog, databases and the Internet.
  • Create and update handouts and electronic guides.
  • Provide assistance to day reference staff on various projects, while keeping day staff informed of problems, questions, needed follow-up as appropriate.
  • May oversee projects in assigned areas.
  • Promote information literacy in a variety of subject areas, both in the classroom and at the reference desk.
  • Related duties as assigned.
  • Reports to the Dean of Library Services and/or the Coordinator of Reference and Instruction

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Staffing the library’s reference desk to serve patron needs
  • Working collegially in an informal but very busy environment
  • May supervise student workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • At least one class in reference services at the Masters’ level.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a team environment with diverse clientele.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with patrons and colleagues.
  • Ability to work easily with the public.
  • Strong commitment to public service.
  • Ability to teach library skills to groups and individuals.
  • Familiarity with MS Office, Google Apps, Libguides and Blackboard preferred.
