Full-Time Children’s Librarian, Yarmouth, MA

Seaside Cape Cod Town of Yarmouth seeks dynamic and innovative Children’s Librarian to manage all aspects of Children’s and Young Adult library services, including story times, summer reading program and special events in two locations. Plans, organizes and maintains Children’s collection. Performs reference services and reader’s advisory services in the children’s section; teaches patrons how to use the library catalog and other technical equipment; assists with circulation procedures as needed; attends library and management workshops. Writes and manages grants; organizes school and community outreach. Provides training and supervision for youth services employees and volunteers. Manages publicity, including displays, calendar of activities, press releases, outreach, P.R., and promotion of children’s library activities and services.
Receives special requests and/or complaints from patrons and community groups, providing response or conflict resolution. Prepares annual department acquisitions budget. Compiles, reviews and interprets statistical data regarding use of children’s services. Assists with special projects and monitoring library youth services budget for the Library Director. Prepares regular management reports for review by Director. Performs other duties as assigned. May serve as Director during absence of the Library Director.
Qualifications: Master’s in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution; experience in youth services in a public library. Excellent people skills, thorough knowledge of resources and regulations for library service to youth population from birth to age 18; strong administrative and technology skills, a passion for service and a good sense of humor.
