LIS Career Preparation and Career Fair Student Worker

Job Summary:

This position will develop and design the resources page with the array of career information available to students, organize and implement the 2016 LIS career fair, and assist the Assistant Dean with assignments as needed.  This position will also provide help at the Student Services Center.

Job Description:

The LIS Career Preparation and Career Fair Student Worker will develop, vdesign, and communicate with LIS students (SLIS-Boston, SLIS -West, and LIS Online) about the numerous ways to obtain career information prior to the LIS career fair and graduation. The Incumbent will organize and structure a career fair for students in the Library and Information Science program. The Incumbent will be responsible for identifying and recruiting local organizations/agencies/businesses as well as the traditional academic, public, and special libraries; archives; museums, non-profit entities and other LIS related areas. The Student Worker must be able to use social media, campus website, and other methods to promote the wide array of career preparation sessions, workshops, panels, etc., and the LIS career fair. The Student Worker must also recruit current students and alumni to attend the fair through publicizing the event through the use of various media sources. Assist the Assistant Dean with the mentoring program and student PDR reimbursements. Assist the Assistant Dean and the Student Services Center as needed.

Details: 

The position pays $16 per hour for 15 hours per week, and it will be only for the academic year.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals.
  • Highly developed organizational and technology skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to produce quality documentation and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Effective problem solving skills and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be a MS-LIS or Doctoral student.

Duties:

  • Must work a minimum of ten hours on site; there is a total of 15 hours per week.
  • Must organize the LIS 2016 areer fair, and update the LIS career fair handbook for its continued implementation, and compile the career fair evaluations.
  • Must review and update resources (workshops, podcasts, weblinks, CEC resources, libguides, etc.) for LIS students; on-going task.
  • Must report back to the Assistant Dean with any ideas or issues that need to be addressed to improve the Career Preparation/Career Fair repertoire.
