Sr. Research Analyst, Cognitive Systems and Content Analytics, IDC, Framingham, MA

IDC’s Big Data and Analytics group is looking for a skilled researcher to assume a market analyst position within its Content Analytics and Cognitive Systems research practice. The individual in this role will generate innovative thought leadership, and provide market research, analysis, and advisory services on Content and Rich Media Analytics dynamics and market opportunities, and contribute as an integral member of the Big Data technology market research team.

This individual will be responsible for primary and secondary research into content and rich media analytics technology that analyzes, organizes, accesses, and uncovers valuable facts and relationships based on a range of unstructured information and provides a platform for the development of analytic applications. The technology components in this market include software for text (often in multiple languages) and rich media (such as audio, video, and image) tagging, searching, entity and relationship extraction, information discovery, categorization, clustering, visualization, filtering, alerting, and navigation.

  • This is a public role with many client-facing and industry-facing responsibilities. The candidate must have very strong writing, public speaking, and presentation skills, demonstrate initiative in independently exploring new topics, and be able to balance multiple roles simultaneously.
  • This individual will assist in developing and maintaining a research agenda in support of our clients’ business and R&D efforts, develop qualitative and quantitative research reports on technology and IT drivers within the industry, and develop and manage long-term relationships with assigned clients.
  • The individual will also contribute to building the reputation and revenues of the Content Analytics and Cognitive Systems research practice by assisting with business development activities.
  • The successful candidate will be able to independently manage and deliver on specific research projects, while being part of a larger team of analysts.
  • Ideal candidates should have 5-7 years of professional experience, ideally at a technology vendor or secondarily at a market research firm, with specific experience in data analysis, survey design, client development, solution creation with senior level executives, project management and execution. Successful candidates will have strong quantitative and qualitative analysis and writing abilities along with strong public presentation and communication skills. Must have a working knowledge of forecasting. Excellent computer skills, including word processing, graphics and spreadsheet applications are a requirement.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or the international equivalent is required (advanced degree in a professional field is preferred).
  • This position is based either in IDC’s Framingham, MA or San Mateo, CA offices with approximately 20% travel.
