Summary:
To acquire materials for and support public access to the New Hampshire State Library’s collections, both physical and electronic.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all activities and record keeping related to purchasing and order fulfillment of library materials from book vendors and library jobbers and monitor expenditures within the library materials budget including monthly reports to the library’s Collection Development Committee.
- Serve on the library’s Collection Development Committee and other library committees as assigned.
- Serve as system administrator of the online bibliographic database to ensure proper functioning and user access.
- Coordinate the creation, loading and maintenance of bibliographic records contained in the online catalog of the library’s collections.
- Catalog general and special collections in all formats.
- Coordinate the statewide depository program, including digital documents, for State of New Hampshire publications.
- Coordinate the materials processing and recordkeeping required of the NHSL as a Federal Depository.
- Prepare statistical and narrative reports on section activities.
- Contribute to the development and documentation of procedures for orderly and systematic work flows.
- Represent state library at professional meetings through association and committee membership, leadership and participation.
- Promote and publicize the resources of the NHSL to the public through library publications and other appropriate channels.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s degree in library science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Two years’ experience in professional library work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Original cataloging experience. Ability to lift and carry books and work under conditions of exposure to dust, dirt, heat, cold, poor lighting and noise. Excellent attention to detail and highly organized work habits. Thorough understanding of information technology and library computer applications. Ability to work independently. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Knowledge of current integrated library systems. Ability to speak before public groups. Considerable knowledge of current cataloging descriptive standards , MARC records, Library of Congress Subject headings and Dewey Decimal Classification. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
Compensation: Labor Grade 21 $40,170-$47,268. Full-time (Monday -Friday) position includes participation in comprehensive employee benefits program. Employees may be required to pay an agency/union fee.
