Assistant Director, Peabody Institute Library, Danvers, MA

Description: Assistant Director for a busy municipal library; 37.5 hours per week, year round position; work schedule includes every third Saturday and one evening per week. Responsible for planning, administration and direct patron services covering a wide range of library operations and functions.

Specific Duties:

  • Primary assistant to the Library Director; acts as Director in his/her absence
  • Creates and maintains work schedules for staff and substitutes
  • Administers human resources function for the Library
  • Manages volunteers
  • Actively participates in strategic planning, budgeting, policy formulation, and programming
  • Acquires library materials and helps manage composition, storage, and display of Library materials
  • Pull regular shifts on all public service desks
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications: MLS and eight years of library experience and increasing responsibilities with demonstrated experience in the administration of library services and supervision of personnel. Experience with automated integrated library systems, customer service and staff training required. Demonstrated successful supervisory experience required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to relate to patrons and staff with a friendly, courteous and professional manner required. Must be capable of lifting up to 35 pounds. Duties require frequent walking, stooping and kneeling.

The position will be subject to a 90 day probationary work period.

Salary: $59,384 to $74,759 in 7 steps
