Library Processing Clerk, Reuben Hoar Library, Littleton, MA

The Reuben Hoar Library is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time (8-10 hours/week) position as a Library Processing Clerk.  This is a non-benefit position.  Duties include carrying out library acquisition procedures, elementary cataloging, entering materials in an automated database, resolving problems in procedure, and assistance in file and records maintenance under the supervision of the Technical Services Librarian/Assistant Director.

This position is also invested with making routine library technical assistance decisions. The work requires that the employee have good knowledge, skill and ability in every phase of library technical support functions.  This position requires a strong attention to detail and an ability to work independently when required.

A  High School diploma or GED is required and/or experience working in a library.  Sound judgment in determining appropriate book categories; knowledge of principles of library operation; ability to prepare reports; computer proficiency for ILS system.  A firm understanding of basic library methods, techniques and procedures.

Should also have a working knowledge of automated systems (Evergreen preferred) as they apply to book processing, some knowledge of reader interest levels, good ability to maintain library records and follow written and oral instructions; or an ability to learn.  Manual dexterity to operate computer and phone equipment, to apply labels and other processing components neatly and consistently. Physical ability to regularly lift library materials weighing up to 40 pounds and push fully loaded carts of library materials.   Considerable ability to pay attention to detail and establish effective working relationships with superiors, associates and the general public.
