Acquisitions’ Assistant (Part-time), American Antiquarian Society, Worchester, MA

POSITION PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Acquisitions Manager, the assistant will perform a variety of duties, mostly clerical, in support of the activities of the acquisition department which primary focus is processing of new materials received by gift or purchase.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

The assistant is a support role in the department. Duties are varied from clerical to more technical, which include cataloging and use of an integrated online system. There will be interactions with bookdealers, curators and other staff.

The assistant is responsible for

1) receipt and distribution of the daily mail and package deliveries

2) recording and some processing of purchases, government documents, and donations

3) use of the online Voyager acquisitions module and the Voyager cataloging module

4) assisting in the serials management of current periodicals and journals

5) other related duties assigned as needed

TRAVEL: N/A

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Applicants should have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, as well as experience and proficiency in Microsoft Access and Excel.  Academic background in American history and/or experience working in a library or acquisitions environment preferred.

EDUCATION:  Some college  or 2-3 years relevant experience

CERTIFICATES/ LICENSES REQUIRED: N/A

LANGUAGE SKILLS: English. Any additional foreign language knowledge is a ‘plus’.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to lift and move large packages,  up to 25 lbs , as well as able to reach shelving above one’s head and below one’s knees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  multi-person, office setting.  

COMPENSATION: This is a part-time, 18 hour per week position, available immediately.   Some paid time off benefits.
