Library Page, Southborough Library, Southborough, MA

Wage/​Salary: $9.47/hr

Duties: Perform a variety of clerical and messenger duties in support of library operations and activities, under the supervision of the Library Director, a Senior Library Assistant, or another designated staff member.

Shelve books and maintain the organized arrangement of library magazines, audio-visual materials and newspapers – keeping the collection neat and in proper order. Process books and audio-visual materials, under supervision.

Assist in all areas of the library: children’s room, teen space, fiction and nonfiction, and assist with special programs as needed. This includes limited desk coverage. Saturday hours are required, with an additional preference for shifts on Monday and Friday; pages may work nights until 9:00 PM in lieu of staff shortages, illnesses, or vacations.

Basic knowledge: The ability to work with the general public – people of all ages – is required. Effective and clear communication, both verbally and in writing, in person and over the telephone is important. Pages should have attention to detail, accuracy, & enjoy learning new skills.

Computer experience, word processing and internet search skills would be preferred.

Experience: Work requires some related experience, but it is not necessarily required. Pages will be trained and mentored by existing library staff. Previous library work or volunteer experience is desired if possible.

Independent action: Library pages perform duties with supervision, in conformance with library policies and procedures. Issues involving exception or interpretation of policies are referred to the Library Director.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical requirements: Good physical stamina is required to perform duties. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Job requires physical ability to lift, carry and shelve books. Required to lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 30 pounds.
