Multimedia Coordinator (one year), Partners In Health, Boston, MA

General Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Multimedia Coordinator is to grow, maintain, and facilitate access to the Partners In Health digital archiving system, Merlin. Merlin houses PIH’s photographic collection of more than 100,000 images, spanning more than a dozen countries, dating back nearly three decades, and continuing to expand. The Multimedia Coordinator also directly fulfills photo requests within PIH and externally when necessary, working independently as well as in concert with Communications team colleagues and interns, under the guidance and management of the Chief Communications Officer.  This position is for one year only. 

Specific Responsibilities:

Project Coordination (40%)

  • Work across the organization to collect and prioritize Multimedia content.
  • Serve as a representative of the Communications team to ensure consistency and quality of established PIH photo standards.
  • Schedule and traffic production for both external and internal Multimedia projects.
  • Provide supportive content for PIH’s social media efforts, gathering collections for PIH publications and website content as requested, proposing complementary visual projects.

Archive Management (40%)

  • Maintain a system of photographic organization within Merlin using dates, keywords, full captions, project usage, among other search terms.
  • Promote broad and deep access to and use of PIH’s still images, within the organization as well as externally.
  • Support PIH colleagues in learning and accessing Merlin database as required.

Administration (20%)

  • Obtain new photo supplies and print vendors in an effort to secure cost-saving measures for the team and organization as a whole.
  • Actively engage with PIH staff at all sites to properly train, identify, and enforce the importance of established PIH photo guidelines to ensure brand consistency.
  • Provide general support of communications efforts including administrative activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least two years with experience in archiving digital images, tagging and online cataloging systems is required.
  • Experience in digital photography and/or video, as well as working knowledge of at least one Mac-based digital imaging software program (i.e. Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Understanding the importance of communicating using sensitive images without compromising the dignity of our patients, and the people we serve.
  • Familiarity with AP Style and the NPPA Code of Ethics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an active team, and fully capable of managing time both on tight deadlines and between campaigns.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and demonstrated ability to work across a range of cultures, personalities and competencies.
  • Must possess exceptional attention to detail, flexibility, curiosity, a sense of humor and enthusiasm.
  • Travel and multimedia experience in resource-poor settings is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, French, and/or Creole is a plus.
  • Interest in and commitment to global health and social justice.
