Access Services Associate, Wheelock College, Boston, MA

Wheelock College Library seeks an Access Services Associate to provide and facilitate effective shared management of the Library Service Desk and its operations.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and supports an organized, welcoming, and patron-centered service area in collaboration Service Desk Librarians
  • Covers assigned Service Desk shifts and assists Library patrons;  troubleshoots basic technology issues and refers to IT as appropriate
  • Responsible for scheduling student workers, approving their timecards, and coordinating their shift changes
  • Manages the Library’s audiovisual equipment
  • Fills lending and borrowing Interlibrary Loan requests
  • Coordinates and participates in promotional activities
  • Compiles Access Services data; contributes to documentation of Access Services policies and procedures
  • May be responsible for opening the Library on weekdays

Requirements:

  • Must be able to adjust schedule on a semester or as-needed basis to work 7am-3pm, Monday-Friday.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in libraries or in higher education
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proven record of reliability
  • Must be well organized and attentive to detail
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a busy setting
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to working in a highly collaborative environment

Preferred:

  • College degree preferred
  • Familiarity with academic library operations and systems
  • Experience supervising students or volunteers
