Membership and Development Assistant, Boston Athenæum, Boston, MA

The mission of the Boston Athenæum is to serve its members, the broader community, and scholars throughout the world by preserving and augmenting its collections of books and art, by providing library services and cultural programs, and by preserving and enhancing the unique atmosphere of its landmark building.

The Boston Athenӕum seeks a Membership and Development Assistant primarily responsible for the day-to-day processing of membership and contribution activity. The holder of this position reports to the Director of Annual Giving and Membership and works collaboratively with all members of the development team while assisting with a wide range of membership, annual fund and other development activities. This position is fulltime, 35 hours per week, with full benefits and is classified as “non-exempt.” Some weekend and evening hours are required, including at least one regular after hours shift each week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process all membership applications, renewal payments, and associated recordkeeping
  • Coordinate all monthly in-house mailings (direct mail and email) for Membership renewal notices
  • Oversee the membership card printing process
  • Process annual fund gifts and other contributions and acknowledgments
  • Works closely with the Administrative Assistant to prepare bank deposit reports for the Finance Department
  • Serve as one of the first points of contact for membership and annual fund inquiries
  • Assist in Raiser’s Edge database management, including data-entry
  • Assist with departmental office duties including: daily filing, office supplies inventory oversight, etc.
  • Assists with staffing of events and the membership desk (at least one regular night or weekend shift required, and additional occasional hours as needed)
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong customer service experience
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proven accuracy and close attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fully proficient in Word and Excel, including Mail Merge and budgeting
  • Raiser’s Edge software experience strongly preferred
