The Archivist at the Knights of Columbus Museum directs, plans and conducts the work of the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Archives which preserves the written historical records of the Order, including those produced in digital format. The position also maintains the historical documentation of the Knights of Columbus and appraises their historical value to the Order. Maintains the rare book collection, selects items for addition to the Knights of Columbus Archives collection. In addition, the position responds to research requests from sources including Knights of Columbus membership, scholars, researchers and the general public.
Qualified candidates should possess a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school with an emphasis on Archives. Additional studies or degree in an area of the Museum’s specialization such as history or the Catholic Church, and knowledge of the Knights of Columbus’ history is desirable.
Candidates should also possess three years of relevant archival management experience, including experience in archival media and conservation techniques. Candidates should also be able to show evidence of scholarly research/publication, possess some knowledge of copyright law, maintain an understanding of electronic records and digital preservation issues and literacy in using computers and museum database systems, and possess knowledge of the techniques of selection, evaluation, preservation, restoration, and exhibition of archival materials.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Directs, plans and conducts the work of the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Archives which preserves the written historical records of the Order, including those produced in digital format
- Maintains the historical documentation of the Knights of Columbus and appraises their historical value to the Order. Maintains the rare book collection, selects items for addition to the KofC Archives collection and maintains the Galeazzi collection. Utilizes proper preservation methodologies or utilizes vendors for projects that cannot be completed in-house.
- Responds to research requests from sources including the Supreme Office, State and Local Councils, members, scholars, researchers and general public. Works with historians working on projects for the Order. Serves as historical resource for Columbia, McGivney Guild, Supreme Knight’s office, Communications and other departments.
- Preparation of catalogues or other publications resulting from archival research in all media: Provides content to archives section of Museum Web site. Reviews and edits historical text for various KofC departments, Prepares annual report. Plans, evaluates, tests and implements electronic software for archives and library catalogue. Selects programs and scans archival materials.
- Recommends/develops Order-wide collection and retention policies and utilization policies/restrictions upon direction from appropriate Supreme Officers and reviews Intent to Destroy Records forms. Prepares Archives reports and works with Museum administration and other KofC personnel.
- Processes outgoing loans and agreements from the archives to other museums and archives. Arranges for scanning of Knights of Columbus publications to create preservation copies and PDF files.
- Prepares exhibits for archives area of museum and in conjunction with the Curator prepares permanent and temporary exhibits both for the Museum and for other locations.
- Serves on Records Management Committee and other committees as requested by senior KofC administration and performs other assigned specific job-related duties.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
