The John Joseph Moakley Law Library at Suffolk University Law School is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time (18 hours per week) position as a library assistant for the circulation/reserve area.
The Law Library Assistant is part of the team that oversees the library circulation/reserve area. This includes hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising student worker staff; providing library services to patrons; and maintaining the library’s collection.
Primary/Principal Responsibilities:
- Staff the circulation/reserve desk to provide front-line services to library patrons, including checking in and out circulating materials, obtaining reserve items, and answering patron questions
- Train and supervise student workers to ensure high levels of customer service, professionalism, and accountability
- Maintain the library’s collection, including by overseeing the reshelving of items and shelf reading by student workers
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in an accredited program for a Master’s degree in Library & Information Science or equivalent; J.D. degree preferred.
- Strong computer and web skills, including familiarity with integrated library systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Commitment to providing the highest level of customer service and responsiveness.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be creative and proactive.
- Must have ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle difficult situations.
- Standard hours of this position are Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and two weekday evenings from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
