Job Description/General Statement of Duties:
The Curriculum Library operates as a unit within the Whittemore Library. The Curriculum Librarian, whose primary responsibility is to provide resources, consultation, and support to the Education Department faculty and students, plans, coordinates, oversees, and monitors all aspects of the Curriculum Library that includes building and maintaining the collection, participation in the planning and implementation of the University’s annual Children’s Literature Festival, collaborating with the Education Technology Office to design and teach face-to-face and distance education workshops, and maintaining the state’s regional NASA Educator Resource Center. In this capacity, the Curriculum Librarian maintains the NASA resources and website and collaborates with the campus Challenger Center Director to provide webinars and workshops in the S.T.E.M. sciences for in-service and pre-service teachers.
Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, overseeing and monitoring all aspects of the Curriculum Library, establishing goals and priorities for the department, and performing acquisitions, reference, instruction, and technical functions. The Curriculum Librarian selects appropriate materials for the collection and seeks input from a designated faculty advisory committee, provides reference assistance for individuals and develops and teaches library instruction classes on a regular basis, and oversees the cataloging and processing functions of print and non-print materials. Other duties include maintenance of the NASA ERC materials and website, participating in the planning and implementation of NASA ERC workshops in collaboration with the Challenger Center Director, training and supervising full and part-time staff, including student assistants, preparing appropriate bibliographies for classes, overseeing the department’s web page content, inventory and weeding functions, keeping abreast of new curriculum trends and participating in the University’s annual Children’s Literature Festival, professional organizations, associations, and networks related to K-12 education, and special projects for on and off campus programs and committees. The Curriculum Librarian is expected to contribute to general library initiatives. The Curriculum Librarian reports to the Director of Library Services and supervises the Library Assistant.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (a second subject Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience required.
- Strong working knowledge of the K-12 education materials (including S.T.E.M.) and the profession including but not limited to, curriculum (state and national standards), instructional strategies and classroom technology integration.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office suite, information technologies, and library information management systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Possess the ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with Education faculty and students.
- Demonstrates knowledge of children’s and young adult literature.
- Maintains working knowledge of LC cataloging standards and experience in selection and acquisitions processes for both print and non-print resources.
- Ability to provide reference services to students and design and conduct face-to-face and distance education library instruction classes.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, benefits eligible, MSCA bargaining unit position. Starting annual salary range is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
