Circulation Desk Manager, Andover Newton Theological School Library, Newton Centre, MA

Andover Newton Theological School Library is seeking a manager for the library’s circulation desk to:
- Manage course reserves, student registration, overdue notices, student billing, holds and recalls with SirsiDynix Symphony.
- Manage interlibrary loan with OCLC’s WorldShare.
- Set-up, schedule, and run reports in SirsiDynix Symphony.
- Assist students, faculty and area ministers using the library’s print and online resources in person and remotely.
- Charge and discharge books, answer directional questions, and assist with online library catalog and proprietary database usage.
- Collaboratively with the IT Help Desk, troubleshoot PC and photocopier mishaps.
- Assist the Technical Services Librarian with reconciling invoices.
- Partner with the Public Services Librarian to continuously improve and update services in response to user experience and evolving technology.
- Train new student workers and new staff members in circulation desk policies and procedures.
25 hours per week divided between 4-5 shifts a week. Schedule will include one evening per week and alternate Saturday afternoons during the academic year. Within those parameters, we will work with the successful candidate to construct a schedule that is mutually beneficial.
This is a 12 month position. Schedule will shift seasonally in response to the rhythms of the academic calendar.
Andover Newton is a graduate seminary with approximately 250 students engaged in ministerial and religious studies. The school is situated on a beautiful 27-acre campus in Newton Centre. Applicant Requirements:
- 1 year circulation desk experience preferably in an academic library.
- Excellent customer service skills in person, on the phone, and via email.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Knowledge of proprietary databases, library catalogs, and integrated library systems.
- Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail and a passion for finding out.
- Interest in evolving technology and its applications to library services.
- BA or BS degree. MLS students encouraged to apply.
Compensation:
$15.48 per hour/ $20,124 annually
Benefits include earned vacation time, paid holidays, paid sick time, Life and Long Term Disability insurance. Pension contributions after one year of service.
