Lab Manager (Full-Time), User Research Center at Harvard Library, Cambridge, MA

Duties & Responsibilities:

The User Research Center at Harvard Library seeks a Lab Manager to provide point-of-need support for library staff using equipment in the URC. The URC provides equipment, space, and training resources for library staff to perform systematic, forward-thinking, and user-centered assessments of library services, spaces, and digital resources. The person in this role will oversee the asset management and online documentation for the URC and will supervise student lab assistants. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. This position reports to the Library UX Specialist. This is a one-year term appointment that will end no later than November 2016. This appointment is one year from the date of hire.

  • Manage the security and inventory of URC equipment.
  • Keep track of statistics on both lab equipment and lab space usage.
  • Carry out small-scale user experience research studies.
  • Liaise with HUIT for technology support and software upgrades.
  • Promote secure data collection and storage.
  • Manage the internal documentation wiki and the public URC website.
  • Assist in the creation of video clips from usability studies and other research-related recordings.
  • Oversee scheduling, workload, and training of student staff.
  • Provide back-up support for student staff around basic troubleshooting and space booking when needed.

Hours:

The scheduled hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 9:00am -5:00 pm.  This position may require  working occasional evenings and weekends.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years’ experience required.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Familiarity with the research process and user experience research.
  • Comfortable with Mac and PC operating systems.
  • Experience working in teams and managing competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS/Javascript.
  • Knowledge of usability software such as Morae, Silverback, or Tobii studio preferred.
